Friend Ships

I went to visit Friend Ships in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  It is a Christian ministry that responds to disasters and provides humanitarian aid through the use of their ships, ground vehicles, and other equipment to those in need.  I was only there for 2 days as I had made plans in Texas, but it was nice to stop in, visit with some of the amazing people, and even lend a hand on a project they were working on.  The project that I helped on was a drainage ditch.  It was already dug but we were adjusting the pitch so the water would flow properly through the pipe.

I did some volunteer work with them in 2014 when I helped at their home port for a month in the spring and helped them move a ship from Seattle, WA down the west coast, through the Panama canal and up to Louisiana which took a month in the fall.

They have been busy responding to the flooding in Louisiana.  A team had been out sand bagging to prevent flooding in their community the day I arrived.  They are currently in need to people to help them out with many different types of positions.  You can learn more about Friend Ships (aka Park West Children’s Fund) at friendships.org
